About the role

The Religion Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing standards-based religion lessons that foster the spiritual growth and faith formation of students. They will also collaborate with faculty and administration while maintaining a safe and engaging classroom environment.

St. John Catholic School, located in Westminster, Maryland, is seeking a part-time Religion Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic school year. The Religion Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing standards-based religion lessons as prescribed by the Archdiocese of Baltimore while fostering the spiritual growth and faith formation of students in a Catholic school environment.

The successful candidate will create engaging, age-appropriate lessons that promote knowledge of the Catholic faith, Scripture, sacraments, prayer, and Christian values. The Religion Teacher will cultivate a classroom atmosphere that encourages students to deepen their relationship with God, live out Gospel values, and actively participate in the faith community.

Responsibilities

include planning and delivering religion instruction, assessing student understanding, integrating Catholic teachings into classroom activities, and collaborating with faculty, administration, and families to support students' spiritual and academic development. Candidates should possess strong instructional skills, a commitment to Catholic education, and the ability to serve as a faith-filled role model for students.

St. John Catholic School seeks an educator who is passionate about sharing the Catholic faith and helping students grow in faith, knowledge, and service while supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.

  • Essential Functions
  • Follow the guidelines and tenants of the Catholic Church and the curriculum of the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
  • Create and implement lesson plans with clear objectives in line with the Archdiocesan Course of Study, utilizing techniques to motivate, challenge, engage, and inspire students to think confidently and independently.
  • Be responsible for the safety and active supervision of students.
  • Integrate the use of technology effectively into the curriculum.
  • Communicate with parents in a professional and timely manner.
  • Perform recess and lunch duties as scheduled.
  • Support the Catholic spirituality and mission of the school.
  • Attend various school events such as Back to School Night, Graduations, and Open House.
  • Position Qualifications
  • Must be an active, practicing Catholic fully able to participate in the life of the Church.
  • Maryland certified or willing to pursue MD certification.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree.

Pay Rate: $15,000, Annualized (10 month position working 15 hours per week)

Requirements

Candidates must be active, practicing Catholics with at least a Bachelor's degree. Maryland teacher certification or the willingness to pursue it is required.
