About the role

The Instructional Technologist partners with faculty and staff to design, implement, and evaluate digital learning experiences within the Canvas LMS. They are responsible for managing educational technologies, troubleshooting technical issues, and collaborating on institutional initiatives.

Position Summary

The Instructional Technologist supports the effective integration of technology into teaching and learning by partnering with faculty, instructional staff, and organizational stakeholders to design, implement, and evaluate engaging digital learning experiences. This fully remote position combines expertise in instructional technology, learning design, and educational platforms to improve the quality, accessibility, and effectiveness of online and technology-enhanced instruction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create courses written by subject matter experts in Canvas LMS
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs leadership team, faculty, and subject matter experts to identify educational technology needs and build courses in Canvas LMS
  • Research and implement educational technologies
  • Manage existing educational technologies
  • Additional Duties
  • Troubleshoot with faculty and students to resolve Canvas issues
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Instructional Design
  • Administrative Duties
  • Communicate regularly with faculty when needed
  • Attend faculty meetings and participate in institutional initiatives as required.

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with online learning platforms and technology.
  • Proficiency with Canvas LMS
  • Proficiency in downloading, uploading, and managing common file types (Word documents, PDFs, PowerPoints, images, MP4s, etc.) within Canvas LMS.
  • Familiarity with basic principles of web page design
  • Familiarity with web accessibility principles
  • Ability to work independently following a guide/template
  • Ability to collaborate
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • 3+ years experience working in higher education and/or instructional design

Other Qualifications

  • Familiar with best practices in online instruction
  • Prior teaching experience
  • Experience in healthcare education
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS
  • Experience implementing and managing LTI applications
  • Strong proofreading skills
  • Familiarity with Respondus LockDown Browser

Preferred

• Bachelor's degree

New employees must complete the background clearances prior to hire and, for those employees having direct contact with minors other than those described above, prior to the time they will begin having direct contact with minors and every 60 months thereafter.

The College also reserves the right to require any employee to have a background check in its discretion during employment.

Clearances required include a PA Statewide Criminal Record search, PA Child Abuse History, and FBI Criminal History record fingerprint search.

A criminal record may be considered justification not to hire or for employment termination, depending upon the circumstances and record.
