  • Category: K1 - 8 Public EducationThe Translator-504 Plan is a contracted role who will be responsible for accurately translating 504 plan documents and related materials from English into Spanish (or other targeted language as needed). This role ensures that families who speak languages other than English have equitable access to essential information regarding their child’s rights, educational accommodations and support services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.. Translations will be completed outside of regular working hours on an as-needed basis, and will directly report to the Director of Special Education.

  • Responsibilities: Translate 504 Plans, accommodation documents, evaluations, correspondence, and related educational materials with precision and cultural sensitivity Maintain the tone, meaning, and intent of the original content while making translations clear, consistent and accessible to families Review and edit translations for grammar, readability and accuracy Handle translations with confidentiality, in accordance to privacy laws and CDCPS policies Complete 504 documents translations within required timelines (within 2 weeks of receipt of documents) to support compliance with legal timelines Submit completed translations and invoices to the Director of Special Education or designated Special Education Department head for approval Qualifications Proven experience translate special education Proficiency in English and Spanish (native or near- native fluency) required Familiarity with 504s, Special Education Terminology and educational process Strongly written communication skills and meticulous attention to detail Ability to work outside of regular working hours to translate IEP documents, as needed Ability to work independently, and meet strict deadlines Ability to handle student records with a strong level of confidentiality and sensitivity
  • Compensation: $30.00 per completed 504 with proposed action notice

Requirements

Candidates must possess native or near-native fluency in both English and Spanish and have proven experience in special education translation. Strong written communication skills and familiarity with 504 plan terminology and privacy laws are required.
