We are currently seeking a music instructor. This position can be full time or part time. Massachusetts licensure in Music is preferred (all levels). This position runs through the school year with the opportunity of a summer school position.
The music instructor is responsible for offering all of the students an opportunity to enjoy music. Depending on the nature of the students, class size may vary from a group of 10 to as many as 50 students. The music instructor may be called upon to assist in planning special activities such as holiday celebrations or the awards assembly. It is hoped that this instructor will develop a chorus which will perform at least once within the year.
The music instructor should be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, talk for long periods of time, and be able to communicate with other agency personnel, LEA representatives, families and the children. The music instructor should be able to react quickly, lift and carry up to 20 pounds, climb stairs and be able to physically restrain youth in an emergency to ensure everyone’s safety is maintained. Staff are trained in current best practice techniques to safely respond to occasional aggressive, self-injurious or unsafe behaviors.
