The Retention Coach supports students during their transition from academic advisors to programs of study to increase persistence. Responsibilities include coordinating persistence reports, conducting student outreach, and assisting with enrollment strategies.
An employee in this position provides a bridge in the support and transition of students from their academic advisors into their programs of study. This staff member will work directly with the school dean, program chairs, academic advisors, academic support, and wrap around services, to ensure that there is a smooth transition from the students’ foundational first year to the second year of study and increase student persistence.
This support may include but is not limited to the organization and coordination of the weekly persistence reports, assigning the students to the responsible faculty and staff members, and the student communication and out reach.
Attend weekly department meeting to review weekly persistence reports. Assist in determining weekly strategy for enrollment increases, organize and coordinate the assigning of students to the responsible faculty members and oversee individual student load. Research and determine ways to implement strategies from academic institutions that are performing well in their retention and enrollment efforts. Communicate routinely with the students to assess needs and available resources. Serve as a general resource in answering students’ questions. Assist in Identifying students’ needs and refer them to appropriate program/services within college campus (e.g. Disability Support Services) or external facilities (e.g. Wrap Around Service Resource). Provide basic information to students to assist in the completion of related necessary forms and step-by-step procedures. Assist in problem solving and student advocacy. Assist in scheduling appointments and preparing correspondence Use of appropriate forms and tools utilized by the College. Maintain and update student records (i.e., paper files and/or database files, scanning of information) utilizing the Banner student system as appropriate to the task. Proficiency with computers and various software and data packages including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Respond quickly to requests for information from supervisors and student-related requests, inquiries and needs. Plan, coordinate, and staff tabling events on campus to engage students, promote programs, and support recruitment and outreach efforts Available to work some evenings and Saturdays as needed. Work as a team member of the Campus and Academic unit. Know the required FERPA and other Federal compliance mandates. Other related duties as assigned by Dean, Program Chair, Academic Advisor, VCSS, VCAA or Campus Chancellor. The above list of duties is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Technical certificate or a minimum of 30 college credits required Employee must be computer literate and proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint) in Microsoft Office 2019 and Google Suite. Must have a pleasant disposition, good attitude and ability to get along with others.
Associate’s degree or higher preferred. Competency with My Ivy and Ivy Learn. Must have the ability to get work done timely and accurately. Confidentiality and trustworthiness are top priorities.
