Practice for this role

About the role

Provide individualized 1

1 behavioral and developmental support to children within a childcare setting. Collaborate with teachers to implement behavioral strategies and document child progress.

Benefits

Competitive salary Agape Love Childcare Center | Detroit, MI $25.00–$28.00 per hour | Full-Time Monday–Friday | 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

Agape Love Childcare Center is seeking a compassionate, energetic, and experienced Part-Time ABA & Behavioral Support Specialist to provide individualized behavioral, developmental, and social-emotional support to children within our childcare center.

This is a unique position designed for someone who enjoys working directly with young children and wants to make a meaningful difference in the classroom. The specialist will provide one-on-one support to designated children while also serving as a behavioral support resource throughout the center for children who may need additional assistance with communication, transitions, social skills, emotional regulation, classroom participation, or challenging behaviors.

This is not a traditional classroom teacher position. The primary focus is individualized child support, observation, intervention, and helping children successfully participate in their classroom environment.

Responsibilities

Provide individualized 1

1 behavioral and developmental support to designated children. Support other children throughout the center who may benefit from additional behavioral or social-emotional assistance. Help children with transitions, communication, emotional regulation, peer interactions, following routines, and classroom participation. Use positive reinforcement, redirection, choices, visual supports, and other developmentally appropriate behavioral strategies. Observe children to identify behavioral patterns, triggers, strengths, and strategies that may help them succeed. Implement established behavior or ABA strategies/plans when appropriate and within the employee's qualifications and scope of practice. Model positive behavioral strategies for teachers and classroom staff. Work collaboratively with teachers to help prevent and reduce challenging behaviors within the classroom. Assist children in developing independence, communication, self-help, and social skills. Document observations, strategies used, behaviors, and child progress as requested. Collaborate professionally with administration, families, teachers, and outside behavioral/therapy professionals when appropriate. Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries regarding children and families. Follow all childcare licensing, health, safety, supervision, and center policies. Candidates with experience as an Elementary Teacher, Special Education Teacher, Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), ABA/Behavior Technician, Paraprofessional, Autism Support Specialist, Tutor, or Learning Specialist are encouraged to apply.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is

Patient, nurturing, compassionate, and dependable.

Comfortable working with children who communicate or express their needs in different ways.

Able to remain calm and positive during challenging behaviors.

Playful and willing to get on the floor, engage, sing, play, and build relationships with children.

Able to recognize that behavior is communication and look beyond the behavior to determine what a child may need.

Comfortable working collaboratively with teachers rather than simply removing a child from the classroom.

Reliable and consistent, as consistency is extremely important for the children receiving support.

Passionate about helping children succeed in an inclusive childcare environment.
