Elementary Substitute Teacher (Grades K-8)

Description Overview The Catholic Diocese of Memphis is seeking qualified and mission-driven educators to join our K–8 Elementary Substitute Teacher pool. Substitute teachers provide short-term instructional support across our diocesan elementary schools as needed, ensuring continuity of learning in a safe, respectful, and faith-centered environment. This is an as-needed, non-benefits-eligible position.
Elementary Substitute Teachers are responsible for maintaining an effective classroom environment during a teacher’s absence by implementing lesson plans, supporting student learning, and upholding the values and expectations of Catholic education. Substitutes may serve in Kindergarten through Grade 8 classrooms.
Key Responsibilities Implement lesson plans and instructional activities left by the classroom teacher.
Maintain a structured, respectful, and positive classroom environment aligned with school expectations.
Support student learning and engagement across a variety of subject areas and grade levels (K–8).
Uphold Catholic values and model professional, ethical conduct at all times.
Follow school policies, procedures, and emergency protocols.
Communicate relevant classroom information or concerns to school administrators or designated staff at the conclusion of the assignment.
Bachelor’s degree required (Education or related field preferred). Teaching license preferred but not required for substitute teaching (must meet diocesan and state substitute requirements). Experience working with children in a school or educational setting preferred. Practicing Catholic preferred; all candidates must support the mission, values, and teachings of the Catholic Church. Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills. Flexibility, reliability, and professionalism.
