- Time: Eligible for rehire on a semester basis Department Description The Office of Career and Professional Development (CPD) delivers a comprehensive approach to professional development. HPU CPD serves as a resource to students for resume, LinkedIn and cover letter development, networking, and mock interviews. Through major/career exploration, to assisting in the internship and job search, HPU CPD is a resource for students from freshman year to their years as alumni. HPU CPD works to develop partnerships with employers to establish internship and full-time job opportunities. Employers are engaged through an online career services platform as well as through various events hosted by the office.
Job Description
Peer Career Advisors (PCAs) serve as an extension of the professional staff by providing career guidance to students. PCAs assist students with resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn review during drop-in hours. PCAs also provide follow up and outreach services to students on campus. On occasion, PCAs are invited to promote the office to prospective students and parents during admissions events. As a student employee you will advise and collaborate with fellow students and will gain strong verbal and written communication skills. Job Location/ Hours Required The candidate will perform most/all job duties in Cottrell Hall. Hours may vary depending on the job requirements; however, the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours.
Responsibilities
Advise students on resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn development during drop-in hours Speak to current and prospective students and parents at CPD and campus events such as Admissions Open Houses, Orientation, Student Support Services Fairs, and Career Expos Occasionally present or co-present in classes or to campus organizations about CPD office and career-related topics, providing a student’s perspective Respond to communication from students, CPD staff, and fellow PCAs promptly Attend mandatory training at the beginning of each semester Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications: Junior or senior who has completed at least one internship and has an interest in assisting students with career questions. You must be available to work shifts during our office’s drop-in hours below: Monday-Wednesday – 11:00 – 6:00 PM Thursday-Friday 11:00 – 4:00 PM Desired Skills: Must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 Strong written and verbal communication skills Attentive, friendly, and patient attitude and ability to mentor fellow students Creative thinker with positive work ethic Able to work 4-10 hours per week At High Point University the faculty and staff are devoted to ensuring every student receives an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people.
