The Classroom Support Substitute assists the Head Start Teacher in delivering the classroom curriculum, greeting parents, and ensuring the care and supervision of children according to Head Start standards and agency guidelines, focusing on trauma-informed care principles. Responsibilities include maintaining classroom safety, adhering to supervision ratios, following daily schedules, and supporting various center functions like cleanup and clerical tasks.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED and successfully complete the Family Service Smart Start for Teacher’s ANGELS Substitute Program, along with current Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification. Fluency in English and Spanish is desirable, and submission of COVID-19 vaccination status is mandatory unless an accommodation is requested.

1. Assists centers as needed to Ensure adequate supervision of children ensuring ratios are maintained in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards regulations and agency standards. Ensures that accurate name to face head counts are conducted as children enter and exit classrooms, restrooms, playgrounds, and other areas of the facility and ensure all children are accounted for at all times. Ensure children are signed out by the authorized parent or adult.
1. Assist teaching staff in carrying out the daily classroom schedule; and assist with the implementation of lesson plans in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
1. Assist with the planning and utilization of appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities and materials that reflect understanding of the developmental needs of young children.
1. Assist with the setup of the classroom environment so that it is conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, cognitive, social and emotional need of all children.
1. Follow all directives given by supervisors in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, agency guidelines, and licensing minimum standards; and follow all guidelines, policies and procedures set forth by the agency.

Responsible for providing a variety of support and service to the education center to include, but not limited to, classroom and playground supervision, meal distribution, after meal clean up, sanitizing toys and table tops, general center clean up, greeting of visitors and parents, clerical assistance, answering phones, maintaining classroom documentation, etc.
1. Attend agency, program and Head Start Center staff meetings and/or trainings as required.
1. Maintain good relationships with stakeholders, current and potential Head Start children and their families, community and co-workers, focusing on providing excellent and culturally sensitive customer service and always presenting a positive image of the agency.
