Please follow this link for a closer look at what it’s like to work at Children’s Wisconsin: https://www.instagram.com/lifeatcw/ Intern I for student accepted and enrolled into a respiratory therapy program and to begin into respiratory therapy program as of August/September 2026. 1st Year - Intern I: Performs a variety of support functions to prepare and maintain equipment and supplies as needed by the respiratory staff. Sets up patient care rooms for admissions and cleans patient care equipment as dictated by hospital and department policy and procedures. Restocks equipment and supplies as needed maintaining appropriate levels per department guidelines. Understands and satisfies the supply and equipment needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult respiratory patient. Maintains ongoing communication with Charge Respiratory Care Practitioner each shift to plan for any projected needs. Maintains respiratory supply rooms and medical gas tank rooms in accordance with regulatory standards. Maintains specialty education and documentation forms for respiratory staff within the department as well as on inpatient units. Cleans, restocks and reports defective equipment as needed and per hospital policies and procedures. Performs operation verification procedures on equipment as dictated by department policy prior to patient care use. Maintains par levels of equipment. Works in collaboration with Respiratory Leaders and Supply Chain staff to change par levels of stock as necessary. Performs inventory checks of supply carts and emergency response equipment and maintains adequate stock levels in conjunction with Supply Chain Coordinators. Maintains respiratory equipment and supplies that are not within par system utilizing the non-stock system. Prepares patient rooms for admissions as directed by the Respiratory Care Practitioner. Maintains required responsibilities by attending educational programs and in-services as necessary. Stays appraised of staff meetings and any relevant policy and procedure revisions. Identifies own learning needs and seeks assistance/direction in meeting them. Identifies opportunities for improvement. Exhibits guiding behaviors that reflect Children's values and support our mission and vision Education: Currently acceptance/enrollment incoming as of Fall 2026 into 1st or 2nd year of a CoARC approved program in Respiratory Therapy. Verification of acceptance into Respiratory Therapy program will be required.
  • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) Intern I Incumbents will be eligible for transition to the Respiratory Care Practitioner Intern II position, upon completion of first year in respiratory program and ongoing enrollment in second year in a Respiratory Therapy program and based upon ongoing acceptable employee performance and position availability required Basic level of computer experience with the ability to navigate Microsoft office applications including Word, Outlook and Excel Requires ability to identify problems, troubleshoot and know resources available for finding the most efficient solutions to problems. Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact courteously and tactfully with patients, parents/families and members of the health care team. Performs basic clerical and communication functions within the unit (phones, patient inquiry, e-mail, voice-mail, Voalte, etc.) as needed. The ability to represent the organization and serve consumers in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the department and its services. Possess willingness and initiative to successfully complete educational requirements and develop and learn new skills as required by the unit. BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council within 6 months of hire into position. This is a paid intern role with a target start date of approx. July/August 2026 before 1st semester Respiratory classes start.
  • This is a casual role with a typical work schedule of every other weekend (Saturday & Sunday) to allow for focus on school during the week. *Children’s Wisconsin is excited to offer financial support to our Respiratory Therapy intern team members in the form of a bonus payment to support pursuit of degree.
