Substance Abuse Counselor

Counselors conduct client interviews and assessments to review substance use disorder history, evaluate treatment response, and develop individualized treatment plans with appropriate goals and interventions. They also provide didactic group counseling, individual counseling, and educational programs focused on relapse prevention and behavior modification, while managing a caseload of up to 25 clients.

Applicants must possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a helping profession and are preferred to have prior counseling experience in substance use disorder or mental health treatment. Candidates must obtain state-Identified certification within 24 months and must be able to obtain clearance to work in the correctional institution.
