Job summary
The Extended Care Aide supervises students in a safe, structured, and faith-centered environment before and/or after school. The aide helps implement activities, ensures student safety, and supports the Catholic mission of the school.
Job responsibilities
- Student supervision
- Monitor students during extended care hours (before/after school)
- Ensure safety at all times (indoors, outdoors, playground, cafeteria)
- Maintain appropriate student-to-staff ratios
- Track attendance and authorized pickups
ACTIVITY SUPPORT • Organize and assist with
- Homework time
- Games and recreational activities
- Arts and crafts
- Encourage positive social interaction and inclusion
- Behavior management
- Enforce school rules and discipline policies
- Model respectful, Christian behavior
- Address minor behavioral issues and report concerns to the coordinator
- Faith-Based environment
- Support Catholic values and teachings in daily interactions
- Lead or participate in prayer when appropriate
- Serve as a positive moral role model
- Communication
- Communicate with parents at pickup (as needed)
- Report incidents, injuries, or concerns to supervisors
- Work collaboratively with teachers and extended care staff
- Health & safety
- Follow emergency procedures and safety protocols
- Administer basic first aid (if trained)
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the care area
- Job requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (some schools prefer college coursework in education or child development)
- Experience working with children (preferred)
- Commitment to Catholic values (practicing Catholic may be preferred or required)
- Background check and safe environment training (often required by dioceses)
