Position description

Rudolf Steiner School seeks a versatile colleague to teach Spanish in grades 8-12. The ideal candidate will possess a love of Spanish language and literature from a wide variety of world cultures. This position includes coordinating our Spanish Exchange Program which enables several students each year to make an exchange with another Waldorf school located in a Spanish-speaking country.

  • Key Responsibilities Among other tasks, the Upper School Spanish Teacher is responsible for:
  • Bringing an engaging, creative and rigorous Spanish curriculum to students in grades 8-12, from introductory Spanish to literature and discussion at Spanish level V.
  • Fostering an immersive approach to learning utilizing Spanish as the language of engagement in the classroom.
  • Cultivating a warm and inviting classroom environment while upholding the school’s standards of excellence in language learning.
  • Supporting the social and emotional well-being of the students and mentoring them in their growth
  • Organizing the Spanish students’ exchange experience with international Waldorf Schools.
  • Working collaboratively with the team of five passionate and dedicated World Language Department faculty
  • Participating actively in school life including class trips, club and student advising, faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, special school events, and other duties
  • Communicating with families and colleagues about curricular and student matters, including report writing and grading
  • Fostering an inclusive, celebratory and responsive classroom environment
  • Key Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience as an upper school Spanish educator
  • Commitment to professional growth, including professional development in Waldorf education and teaching methods
  • Fluency in Spanish; native speaker preferred
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, collegiality, humor and punctuality

SALARY
