About the role

The student mentor attends class, meets with the supervising professor, and creates lesson plans. They also facilitate weekly mentor sessions to support student academic success and persistence.

Fall 2026 Student Mentor: GWS/HIS-222: Women in American History with Professor Herbst

This position serves one section of the course. Before applying, please make sure you are available for at least one of the following:

Tuesday 2: 40-4:00 PM

Thursday 2: 40-4:00 PM

You must have previously taken and successfully passed GWS/HIS-222 or a related course at Grinnell College to be considered.

The student serves as a positive academic and social resource to others by promoting academic success, persistence and providing direction to appropriate services and staff. Must be able to maintain confidentiality with shared information and possess strong interpersonal and creative problem solving skills.

Duties

Academic Success Center Mentors attend class, meet with supervising professor, create lesson plans, and facilitate weekly mentor sessions for students in that class. This totals a maximum of 6 hours per week.
