Responsibilities
AND DUTIES Under the supervision of school leaders, the ideal candidate will drive student outcomes in the following ways:
Build and maintain a language-rich learning Environment Create and support a classroom environment immersed in literacy and conducive to learning. Establish positive rapport and meaningful engagement with students, staff, and families. Utilize instructional time efficiently and effectively. Demonstrate initiative and creativity in applying evidence-based practice to teaching and professional learning.
Knowledge and Use of Content Learning and Literacy (CALL) strategies and Routines Contribute to planning and actualizing instructional priorities for the school-wide literacy program in conjunction with the instructional leadership team. Implements the adopted core and supplemental reading programs, and supports effective use for teachers and paraprofessionals. Maintains and shares a collection of professional literacy/learning materials, which reflect current research and best practices. Executes the Common Core ELA and English Language Arts/English Language Development Framework.
- Support school-wide literacy instruction Collaborates with grade level and content teams in promoting literacy strategies.
- Assists with the development and selection of resources to enhance literacy awareness/focus in the regular and intervention classrooms.
- Focus on academic English Language Development to prepare all students to meet or exceed academic content standards in the subject areas.
- Incorporates opportunities for English Learners participate in discussions that tap into funds of knowledge and background.
- Collaborates with all grade level and content teachers to enhance support for ELs.
- Collaborates with teams of teachers to increase content literacy through Integrated ELD Instruction specific to newcomers and students at lower language proficiency levels.
- Supports the schoolwide assessment program, and collaborates with the instructional team to use data to guide instructional planning.
- Promotes literacy as a process, and develops a life-long love of reading and learning in reluctant learners.
- Maintains systems that monitor student growth and progress, and shares results with students, team members, and families.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree required; advance degree in subject area preferred Possession of a valid preliminary, or clear California Single Subject teaching credential with BCLAD, CLAD or ELA1 Minimum of 5 years teaching experience Demonstrated success working with students from educationally underserved areas Proven track record in raising reading achievement Experience with English Language Learners Vast knowledge and expertise in reading and writing instruction
