  • Overview: To provide academic instruction as an Upper School Computer Science Teacher alongside our dedicated upper school community, in alignment with our mission and towards the ends of our Graduate Profile. Course assignments currently are Computer 6 and Computer 7. Candidates with expertise in middle or high school computer or STEM related courses are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will also have experience and / or interest in robotics, with a desire to participate as a coach in our flourishing co-curricular VEX Robotics program. Duties and Responsibilities

Academic Instruction Develop and implement unit and lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the school’s curriculum, with an Understanding by Design framework. Prepare engaging lessons that aim to meet each student at their point of need. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, and materials that reflect understanding of the needs of students and the nature of the content and skills. Develop and conduct assessment of student learning, both formative and summative. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for spiritual, physical, and social development of students, aimed towards an outcome of purpose, dignity, agency, empathy, communal spirit, and responsible action in students. Structure the physical and digital environments (classroom and Canvas course page) in an organized, intentional manner that promotes effective learning and instruction. Collaborate with colleagues on instruction, assessment, and practices towards the goals of coherence, alignment, and robust student learning and growth. Christian Discipleship View each student as an image bearer possessing immeasurable worth regardless of performance. Treat each student impartially, individually, and according to understood needs. Aim towards Christ-like behavior in attitude, speech, and action, rooted in dependence on him and implemented in a spirit of repentance and humility. Be knowledgeable of the Bible and its application to subject area(s) and engage in practices and habits that will continue to deepen both knowledge and practice. Address conflict biblically with students, co-workers, and others within the CCS community. Foster a classroom environment of love and respect for one another, for learning, and for truth. Develop classroom management practices that equip students for engagement in the cultural mandate, valuing collaboration, purpose, accountability, mutual support, responsibility, and agency. Participate in curricular student developments events such as class retreats and Interim programming. Christian Community Give help to fellow teachers and support staff. Engage with students beyond the classroom in co-curricular activities Be an active member of the CCS community by attending special events, student activities, and co-curricular activities when possible. Involve parents in awareness, purpose, prayer, and volunteerism as appropriate. General Responsibilities Establish and maintain open communication with students, and parents or academic counselors as appropriate, when academic work or behavior requires attention. Work collaboratively with grade level and department teams. Attend staff and in-service meetings/workshops as required. Actively pursue personal and professional growth opportunities. Keep daily lesson plans in easy access in the event that a substitute is needed. Other duties as assigned, including supervision, carpool, and lunch duties. QualificationsQualifications: Faith in Jesus Christ, a commitment to the mission of Chattanooga Christian School, and support of the reformed tradition of education. Knowledge of Scripture and its application to all of life, particularly pedagogy, school community, and related disciplines. Three years of demonstrated, effective teaching experience in middle or high school computer or STEM related courses. A Bachelor’s degree required; focus in Computer Science, Science, Math, Education, or related discipline preferred. Ability to collaborate well with colleagues in all areas of education including planning, assessment, student care, and student life. Ability to work effectively with a variety of learners. Understanding of and ability to meet the discipleship and developmental needs of students in grades 6-12. Experience in the use of technology for instruction. Ability to communicate graciously and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to exercise discretion and utmost professionalism in confidential and sensitive student/family matters.
