Job description

Mountain biking (Club sport) – assistant coach

Pace Academy is an independent college preparatory school in Atlanta, Ga., with an enrollment of 1,150 students in Pre-First through 12th grade. Essential duties and responsibilities

Working closely with the head coach and Director of Athletics, the assistant coach is responsible for supporting various aspects of the mountain biking team, including occasionally driving the team to practices/weekend races. The coach is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Pace Academy and the Georgia Cycling Association.

Duties

  • Daily team coaching alongside the coaching staff
  • Driving players to/from practices, as needed
  • Representing Pace Academy and the mountain biking program in a professional manner and within the bounds of good sportsmanship

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possesses and maintains a coaching philosophy that is in accordance with the mission of Pace Academy
  • Coaching experience and a solid understanding of how to work with student-athletes in grades six through 12
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to the student-athlete concept
  • Effective leadership and coaching skills
  • Employs good communication skills with players, parents/caregivers and the Office of Athletics
  • Is energetic, self-motivated, flexible, punctual, dependable and a team player

Work hours and expectations

A part-time, mid-August to late-October season appointment. On/off-campus responsibilities include off-campus practices for 2 hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays and multiple weekend races. Coaching responsibilities include traveling and/or driving with the team to practices and weekend races outside of the Atlanta area. All coaches are employed on an annual basis, and continued employment is based on a season review conducted by the Director of Athletics.

Working conditions

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time during practices and meets
  • Able to squat, stoop, kneel, reach above the head, reach forward and repeat the same hand motion often
  • Coaching in all weather extremes, including heat, cold, rain and/or snow
  • Long hours during the competitive season, including weekends
  • Light to moderate lifting
