Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate and skilled High School English Language Arts Teacher who believes all students can achieve at high levels. The ideal candidate will create engaging, standards-aligned instruction that builds strong literacy skills, critical thinking, and student voice. You will join a mission-driven team committed to academic excellence and deep care for our students. Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver clear, rigorous ELA lessons using Understanding by Design (UbD) Create meaningful learning experiences that connect to students’ identities and lived experiences. Use varied instructional strategies to support all learners (collaboration, modeling, literacy in content, differentiation) Monitor student learning through ongoing assessments and adjust instruction accordingly. Provide timely, specific feedback to strengthen reading, writing, and analytical skills Maintain accurate digital course materials and assignments. Build a structured, respectful classroom culture aligned with LSJ expectations. Communicate proactively with families regarding student progress Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to school-wide goals and professional learning QualificationsRequired Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field NYS Certification in ELA Minimum 2 years of prior teaching experience Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong classroom management and lesson-planning ability Comfort using instructional technology, including Google Classroom and other digital learning tools Commitment to continuous professional growth

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Secondary Education or related field Experience teaching ELA in grades 8–12 Demonstrated success in urban and/or non-traditional school settings Bilingual in English and Spanish Strong facility with culturally responsive curriculum and instruction
