Job Description
Allegheny Health Network’s (AHN) Women’s Institute is seeking a full-time Laborist (OB Hospitalist) to join a collaborative, patient-centered team in Pittsburgh. This role is ideal for an OB/GYN who enjoys a hospital-based practice, thrives in high-acuity and fast-paced settings, and values a strong team culture built on safety, quality, and communication. Key Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive care to obstetrical and gynecological patients in the hospital setting. Manage labor and delivery, including vaginal deliveries and Cesarean sections. Triage patients and manage admissions, transfers, and inpatient evaluations. Evaluate and manage obstetrical emergencies, including: Postpartum hemorrhage Preeclampsia Eclampsia Evaluate and manage gynecological emergencies, including: Ectopic pregnancy Pelvic inflammatory disease Ovarian torsion Provide consultation services to other medical specialties within the hospital. Perform gynecological surgeries as needed, based on training and experience. Provide postpartum care and education to new mothers. Collaborate with nurses, midwives, and other healthcare team members to provide coordinated, comprehensive patient care. Communicate effectively with referring physicians and outside providers. Maintain accurate and complete medical records, including documentation of: Patient history Physical examination Diagnosis Treatment plan Progress notes Provide 24/7 in-house coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as assigned. Administrative Responsibilities Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs. Participate in departmental meetings and continuing medical education activities. Adhere to hospital policies and procedures. Supervise and teach medical students and residents, as needed. Assist with resident education and training.
Qualifications
