Job Description

Plan and lead swim lessons using YMCA curriculum and safety standards Teach swimming techniques and water safety skills to all ages and abilities Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, and constructive feedback Monitor participants to ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment Track swimmer progress, attendance, and complete reports Communicate effectively with participants, parents/guardians, and supervisors Attend all scheduled classes; arrange substitutes and lesson plans if absent Set up and store class equipment, and maintain pool deck cleanliness and safety Attend required trainings, staff meetings, and in-service safety drills Model and promote YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility Qualifications Minimum age: 14 Strong swimming ability; able to demonstrate all six swim strokes Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications Ability to remain in water for extended periods and assist swimmers of all ages and abilities Physical stamina for multiple classes per day; mobility to bend, kneel, and move around the pool deck Calm and effective response in emergency situations Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills Reliability, responsibility, and maturity Commitment to YMCA mission and core values Dress & Physical Expectations One-piece swimsuit (female) or swim trunks (male), clean and modest Bare feet only in pool entry/exit areas Comfortable working in humid indoor or outdoor pool environments Compliance with ADA accommodations as needed
