  • Summary: The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising a high-quality early childhood classroom at the St. Mary’s County Family YMCA. This role ensures compliance with Maryland licensing standards while supporting the YMCA mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The YMCA is expanding childcare services in St. Mary’s County through a new licensed center serving local families, with the YMCA responsible for staffing, programming, and daily operations.

  • Responsibilities: Curriculum & Classroom Leadership ● Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans ● Create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment ● Support children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development ● Use observation and assessment tools to track progress Child Supervision & Safety ● Maintain constant supervision and ensure child safety at all times ● Follow Maryland Office of Child Care (OCC) licensing regulations ● Maintain proper staff-to-child ratios ● Implement emergency procedures when necessary Staff Leadership ● Supervise assistant teachers and aides ● Delegate classroom responsibilities and provide guidance ● Model YMCA values and professionalism Program Operations ● Maintain accurate attendance, incident reports, and documentation ● Ensure classroom cleanliness and organization ● Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and YMCA initiatives Qualifications
