SUMMARY
The Health Nurse provides high quality delivery of nursing health services to students and employees in accordance with the school policies, procedures, guidelines, and the nurse code of ethics. This position reviews student records, ensures that all medication, treatment plans, and other requirements are met and supports the medical response training of staff.
- Essential functions
- Administers medications to designated students in dosage and manner prescribed
- Documents and maintains accurate records, including but not limited to medication authorization forms, physician scripts, medication requests, charting, etc.
- Maintains appropriate supply of medication through communication with parents, guardians, pharmacies, daily med checks and physician’s practices
- Ensures employee and family compliance of medication policies
- Assures adequate maintenance of First Aid supplies and directions for obtaining emergency assistance, and participates in the development of emergency care plans
- Performs assessments and provides treatment for actual or potential student health problems, and administers First Aid for employee work-related injuries
- Provides emergency care for acute illness of students and staff including the active on the scene response to medical emergencies across various locations on campus
- Manages communicable disease outbreak controls and relevant communications necessary on school campus
- Provides First Aid, CPR, EpiPen, AED, and other relevant medical training to company personnel as needed
- Properly maintains AED’s, first aid kits, and monthly supplies for nursing office
- Coordinates and communicates effectively and frequently with families and medical professionals, including the Certified School Nurse, as well as the Pupil Services Director, Behavior Health Services Director, Education Director, IEP meetings as needed and related company personnel to ensure and high quality nursing services
- Monitors staffing levels including determine level of nursing service need due to organizational demand and building needs
- Coordinates and/or supports the Vista Med Clinic under the direct oversight of the Hershey Medical Center

Physical demands
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The following positions or frequent movements are typical of the job: sitting, walking, standing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, kneeling, and crawling, often for extended periods of the workday. Assignment may require the ability to quickly attend to or physically move students during possible physical or medical interventions to maintain a safe learning environment.

- The ability to understand and carry out detailed, involved, instructions is mandatory.
- The incumbent must be able to travel to multiple locations as needed, when needed to conduct organizational business.

Expected schedule
This is a full-time position with a Monday through Friday workweek expectation, and minimum designated hours between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm due to the student schedule. The Health Nurse is required to follow the school calendar, including an obligation to work the agreed upon number of in-service days. The Health Nurse may also be required to work additional hours over break weeks due to training needs or during heavy planning periods per supervisor request.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Pennsylvania LPN license required
- Valid CPR, First Aid and AED certification and administrative trainer designation required
- Satisfactory completion of Vista’s crisis intervention training
- Knowledge and skills
- Valid Pennsylvania RN license preferred
- Certification in First Responder courses highly desired
- Experience delivering medical services to individuals on the Autism Spectrum and concurring medical issues highly desired
- Advanced practice training highly desirable
- Demonstrates strong leadership abilities and organizational skills
- Effectively manages multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines
- Problem solves in a positive manner to analyze issues and create action plans
