Job Description

Position Summary

The Elementary Special Education (SPED) Teacher provides individualized and small-group instruction for students with diverse learning needs in grades K–4. The teacher designs and implements instruction aligned with IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) and collaborates with classroom teachers, families, and specialists to support academic, social, and emotional growth. Key Responsibilities Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities. Provide specialized instruction in reading, math, writing, and other core subjects tailored to students’ abilities and goals. Collaborate with general education teachers to modify curriculum and classroom instruction as needed. Conduct formal and informal assessments to track student progress and update IEP goals. Support students’ social-emotional development and self-advocacy skills. Maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, staff, and specialists regarding student progress and needs. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, professional development, and school events. Maintain accurate records of IEPs, progress monitoring, interventions, and assessments. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or a related field. Valid state certification/licensure in Special Education for K–4 students. Knowledge of special education laws, instructional strategies, and best practices for early elementary learners. Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to differentiate instruction and support students with a variety of learning needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience teaching K–4 students with disabilities in inclusive and pull-out settings. Familiarity with behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and progress monitoring tools. Experience collaborating with related service providers (speech, OT, PT, etc.). Training in evidence-based literacy and math interventions for students with special needs.
