The Literacy Specialist supports the development of reading and writing skills across assigned grade levels by working closely with students, teachers, and school leadership. This role focuses on improving literacy outcomes through targeted instruction, assessment, and collaboration. Key Responsibilities: Provide small-group and individualized literacy instruction based on student needs Assess student reading and writing levels using formal and informal tools Develop and implement intervention plans to support struggling readers and writers Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate effective literacy strategies Model instructional best practices and provide coaching or support to staff Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of interventions and outcomes Assist in the selection and implementation of literacy programs and materials Support school-wide literacy initiatives and professional development efforts Communicate regularly with teachers, administrators, and families regarding student progress Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, Literacy, or a related field (Master’s preferred) Valid New York State teaching certification New York State Literacy certification Specialized training in literacy instruction, reading intervention, or a related area Experience working with diverse learners, including struggling readers Skills & Competencies: Strong instructional and intervention skills in reading and writing Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly Excellent communication and collaboration skills Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff Working Conditions: School-based environment May involve working with students in classroom settings or pull-out intervention groups QualificationsQualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, Literacy, or a related field (Master’s preferred) Valid New York State teaching certification New York State Literacy certification Specialized training in literacy instruction, reading intervention, or a related area Experience working with diverse learners, including struggling readers
