The Graduate Fellow / Women's Basketball has various responsibilities collaborating with the Head Coach, coaching staff, and support staff members in all aspects of the basketball program. This includes, but is not limited to, practice planning and execution, game preparation, video analysis, basketball analytics, player development, knowledge of software, administrative/operational duties, mentoring student athletes, and recruiting. The Graduate Fellow will be expected to uphold the academic and athletic standards of the institution while pursuing their graduate studies. This position is crucial in providing analytical analysis for coaches & student athletes to enhance performance.

This position reports to the Head Coach and Assistant Coaches. This role is responsible for adhering to all department & university policies & procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws & interpretations of the Atlantic Coast Conference [ACC] & National Collegiate Athletic Association [NCAA]. Requires non-standard working hours, evening, nights, weekends & holiday work, and travel. Finally, in adherence to current NCAA rules this position must actively pursue an advanced degree.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and enrollment at Virginia Tech to pursue an advanced degree during appointment.
  • Demonstrated basketball experience &/or coaching experience at a collegiate or professional level.
  • Experiential knowledge of basketball terminology & strategy.
  • Experience with sports video analysis & coaching software.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal & organizational skills necessary.
  • Ability to accomplish multiple tasks within demanding timeframes.
  • Attention to detail & the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to use discretion & maintain all confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in a similar role within a college basketball program. Practical knowledge of analytics. Experience with Teamworks &/or other similar software. Direct familiarity with NCAA rules & regulations related to video operations. Certification in video analysis software & equipment.
