Job description
Position Summary
- Under the direction of an Early Learning Director, and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the Salina Family YMCA, the Assistant Teacher supports and assists the Lead Teacher, provide direction and implementation for the program and classroom, and provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in the planning and implementation of the daily program under the direction of the Lead Teacher.
- Complete 16 hours of KDHE approved training on an annual basis.
- Assist in supervision of the children, classroom, and all activities.
- Help to maintain a welcoming, clean learning environment.
- Help preserve the quality of supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Interact with the children.
- Attend any staff meetings and trainings required by the YMCA.
- Provide exceptional customer service by greeting all participants, maintain a clean and safe facility and demonstrating professional conduct at all times.
- Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
- All other duties as requested.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- 6 months previous experience working with children.
- Must be able to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
- Have an understanding of family problems, their needs, as well as the needs of at-risk children.
- Good communication skills and the ability to create a risk-free environment on a daily basis.
- Needs to be able to make sound decisions based on factual information in regards to kindergarten readiness skills.
- Certifications: CPR/FA, within 30 days of hire
- TB Test, within 30 days of hire
- Work environment & physical demands
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, and occasionally move up to seventy-five (75) pounds in the form of supplies or equipment.
- Able to sit, stand and bend to perform appropriate tasks.
- Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
- Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.
- May be required to stand for extended periods of time.
- Work in different temperature environments.
