Summary
The Head Start Teacher assumes primary responsibility for a Head Start classroom, ensuring a high-quality learning environment and fostering the developmental growth of young children.
Specific Duties of the Job
- 1.
- Oversee all day-to-day operations of the Head Start classroom to ensure smooth operation and service delivery.
- 2.
- Assess each child’s developmental level and use this information to support individualized learning.
- 3.
- Develop and implement lesson plans with diverse learning materials, activities, and experiences.
- 4.
- Engage parents in their child’s education through training, volunteer opportunities, and direct involvement.
- 5.
- Maintain consistent communication with parents through various methods such as home visits, conferences, phone calls, and newsletters.
- 6.
- Conduct monthly home visits to assist parents in understanding child development and behavioral patterns.
- 7.
- Support parents in accessing community resources and services as needed.
- 8.
- Assist parents in problem-solving and address concerns collaboratively.
- 9.
- Help with meal preparation, cleanup, and dine with children.
- 10.
- Participate in classroom and center-wide cleaning duties as required.
- 11.
- Train, monitor, and evaluate classroom staff, including volunteers.
- 12.
- Collect and maintain required health records and reports.
- 13.
- Assist with parent meetings and trainings.
- 14.
- Recruit children for Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
- 15.
- Attend and participate in meetings, trainings, and conferences at local, state, and national levels.
- 16.
- Support efforts to secure volunteer contributions and in-kind donations.
- 17.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable standards, including Head Start Performance Standards, DHS Licensing, CACFP, Department of Health, and NAEYC Accreditation.
- 18.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Education and Experience Qualifications
Education
- Minimum Associate Degree (A.A. or A.A.S.) in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
- Prefer Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. / B.S.) with a valid Tennessee Teaching License with a Pre-K endorsement.
Experience
• Prior experience working with children in a preschool setting.
