Overview Overview The mental health counselor is a part-time member of the counseling and health services clinical team, delivering psychological services to members of the Salem State student body. The position is a permanent appointment, open to Massachusetts licensed psychologists/HSPs, Licensed Independent Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Mental Health Counselors, or candidate for above licensure. The counselor is responsible for a range of clinical responsibilities and projects. The primary focus of the work is treatment in the individual therapy modality, but other duties include crisis triage, group therapy, psycho-education, outreach, and assessment. Required Qualifications Terminal degree from an accredited program in social work, mental health counseling, or counseling or clinical psychology (PhD, EdD, or PsyD). Licensed to practice independently as a social worker (LICSW), LMHC or psychologist (with Health Service Provider designation) in the state of Massachusetts. License eligible will be considered. Experience providing clinical services to a variety of populations, including people of color and LGBTQIA individuals, and an ability to respect differences in mental health care needs across cultural and other identities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in college counseling center. Previous crisis intervention experience. Ability to speak Spanish is strongly preferred. Working Location This is a nine-month, part-time, 30 hours per week onsite position in Salem, MA with on-campus, in-person responsibilities during the academic year; salary is distributed evenly over 12 months.
