Job description
Description PURPOSE OF JOB To promote, implement and uphold the professional standards of school nursing practice and follow state and local health practice statutes, district policies and administrative guidelines. The substitute school nurse serves as a medical resource and health advocate for students and staff. This is an PRN position and will be considered temporary. Hours as close to 7:00am to 3:00pm as possible.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises prescribed medical treatments and medication administration according to School Board Policy.
- Provides assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management and referral for appropriate medical care of students with acute/chronic health conditions in emergency situations.
- Provide medical and health services to students in the nurse’s office, other areas of the building (when needed) or on the school grounds (when needed).
- Maintains and updates the current health record for each student enrolled in the school.
- Collaborates with school support staff to meet health care needs of students and make referrals when appropriate.
- Maintains orderly health room and enforces school discipline rules as outlined in Student Handbook.
- Interprets student health care needs to families and school staff.
- Educates families through written communication and verbal contacts to encourage follow-through of health care referrals.
- Provides assistance and counseling for students with psychological and medical concerns and/or physical limitations and assists in adaptation of any limitations and makes referrals to school social workers when appropriate.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed Practitioner Nurse (LPN) Current license to practice nursing in the state of Missouri.
Preferred Qualifications
Baccalaureate in Nursing (BSN). Experience in Public Health Nursing is beneficial but not a requirement.
