Position Title: Clinical Teaching Faculty

Job Description

Works in collaboration with program lecture faculty providing instruction in the laboratory and/or clinical setting. The clinical teaching faculty will work with students to provide opportunities to apply learned skills and achieve the stated objectives and outcomes of the nursing course in which the students are enrolled. Essential Functions: Provides instruction in the clinical setting 24 hours per week; uses 16 hours per week for job related duties including completion of all requirements related to instruction, meeting attendance, and office hours. Works closely with the course lecture faculty to maximize learning experiences for students and delivers the content appropriate for the clinical/laboratory sessions. When in the clinical setting, provides unit with the course syllabus during the first week and plans with the agency staff to provide maximum learning experiences for students. Considers clients’ needs when planning student-learning experiences. Completes all necessary documentation including anecdotal notes and evaluations of students’ performance by the stated deadlines. Provides all necessary documentation to the program, course lecture faculty, and students by the stated deadlines. Communicates, without delay, with course lecture faculty when concerns with students’ clinical/laboratory performance become apparent. Participates in end of semester course meetings with faculty and laboratory staff and provides input regarding the clinical and/or laboratory components of the course. Provides feedback regarding curriculum related to clinical and laboratory objectives. On duty days prior to and after the conclusion of classes each semester and when not planning for or concluding a clinical experience, or when not in clinical instructor orientations, may participate in the preparation and maintenance of the laboratory spaces/supplies. Performs other duties related to the laboratory and/or clinical components of the program or facilities (e.g., operates mannequins and participates in simulation role-playing and debriefing). Based on program need, CTFs may cover a lecture (theory) or laboratory course as part of their 40 hour per week requirement. Due to the scheduling of course sections, the 40 hour per week requirement may fluctuate and will be averaged over the semester. Total hours in lecture and/or lab should not exceed those of a typical 15/16 week lecture/lab course. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of OBN Chapter 5 rules and regulations for Nursing Education Programs. Knowledge of National Accreditation standards. Good communication skills, interpersonal skills, up-to-date clinical knowledge in acute medical/surgical units. Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and hospital staff. Ability to make decisions under pressure. Ability to manage several projects at one time. Ability to provide positive feedback to students. Ability to work with hospital staff, students, patients and family members. Professional attitude and presence. Professional demeanor under pressure. Strong level of commitment to the nursing profession and the nursing program. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree Completion of an approved registered nursing education program. Experience of at least two years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse. Current, valid, unencumbered license as a registered nurse in Ohio. Competence in the area of clinical practice in which the clinical teaching faculty is providing supervision to a student.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree, a valid Ohio registered nurse license, and at least two years of nursing practice experience. A Master's degree and prior experience in clinical supervision are preferred.
