Job Description
Purpose of Position Provide a successful, safe, and supervised educational setting for children to receive childcare and recreation. Maintain a safe and healthy environment. Promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of the children. Facilitate effective communication between parents and the program.
Minimum Qualifications
Activity Leaders & Assistants Must be at least 16 years of age. Have completed at least two years of high school. Demonstrate a strong desire to work with children. Must submit Medical and other Background Clearances. Must be able to reliably commute to and from the program site(s) in a timely manner. Pay Scale: $16.94 - $18.00 per hour. Group Leaders & Group Assistants Must be at least 18 years of age. Have completed at least one year of college or have at least one year of related experience working with children. Demonstrate a strong desire to work with children. Must submit Medical and other Background Clearances. Must be able to reliably commute to and from the program site(s) in a timely manner. Pay Scale: $18.00-$21.00 per hour.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support the needs of all children, including those who are at risk, have special needs, are gifted, or come from culturally diverse backgrounds. Help implement all elements of the after-school program. Assist in planning and facilitating recreational activities that promote development across all domains: social, emotional, physical, and cognitive. Supervise group activities while addressing the unique needs of each child. Follow a consistent daily schedule that includes group experiences, choice time, music and movement, motor skill activities, meals, and smooth transitions. Encourage problem-solving, cooperation, socialization, experimentation, and decision-making. Ask open-ended questions and actively listen. Supervise and monitor children at all times. Respond appropriately to crises or emergency situations. After specialized training, provide first aid/CPR, practice universal precautions, and access emergency services when needed. Assist in maintaining accurate reports and records as required by licensing and program operations. Participate in team meetings to support collaboration and service planning. Perform additional duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Willingness to learn and take initiative. Ability to accept direction and feedback from supervisors.
