Position Summary
The English Department at University of Detroit Mercy seeks applicants for a one-year instructor position with an annual teaching load of eight courses over fall and winter semesters. Teaching assignments are primarily first-year writing (rhetoric and composition) courses with the option of teaching one introductory literature, film, professional writing, or creative writing class per semester. Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in a related field Demonstrated excellence in teaching in the college setting Knowledge of and commitment to best practices for teaching and mentoring a diverse student body
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in a related field Demonstrated experience helping undergraduate students, including first-generation college students, successfully transition college-level coursework Understanding of and commitment to the university’s mission, including teaching praxis that seeks to integrate students’ intellectual, spiritual, ethical and social development Experience of assessment at the course and/or program level ESL certification and/or significant experience teaching English language learners Physical Requirements Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Work Environment Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
Salary/Pay Information Commensurate with experience
Anticipated Schedule Monday to Friday 8.30 AM to 5.00 PM.
