Job description
Preschool Classroom Assistant Knoxville Montessori School is seeking a Preschool Classroom Assistant for the 2026–2027 school year. This role supports the Lead Guide in maintaining a prepared Montessori environment that serves the academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of children ages 3–6.
The Preschool Classroom Assistant plays an important role in protecting the Montessori work cycle, supporting children’s growing independence, and helping create a calm, joyful, and orderly classroom community. The Assistant works closely with the Lead Guide to support student needs, classroom routines, transitions, outdoor learning, and care of the environment.
The ideal candidate is warm, observant, dependable, and collaborative. This person should enjoy working with young children, value child-centered education, and believe in supporting children with respect, patience, and high expectations. Successful candidates are comfortable helping children develop independence, social skills, self-regulation, and responsibility within the classroom community.
Responsibilities
include supporting classroom flow and supervision, assisting children with daily routines and hygiene needs, preparing and maintaining the classroom environment, reinforcing Grace and Courtesy lessons, supporting outdoor learning, communicating observations to the Lead Guide, attending required meetings and school events, and upholding KMS expectations for professionalism, communication, and collaboration.
The Preschool Classroom Assistant will work as part of a teaching team, participate in ongoing professional development, and contribute to a positive and supportive school culture rooted in Montessori philosophy and values.
A bachelor’s degree is required. Experience working with young children, Montessori education, early childhood education, or child development is preferred.
