The Teacher of the Deaf plans and provides specialized learning experiences and instruction for students with disabilities to help them access the general education curriculum. Responsibilities include developing IEP-aligned lesson plans, managing the learning environment, and training classroom assistants.
Candidates must hold a BA degree or higher in Special Education or Early Childhood Education and possess a NJ Teacher of the Deaf Certification. A minimum of two years of teaching experience with children is required.
Teacher of the Deaf
The Teacher of the Deaf is responsible for planning and providing appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in various educational settings. This role involves creating a flexible program and learning environment that offers specialized instruction, enabling students with special needs to benefit from the general education curriculum with the support of supplemental aides, accommodations, and other necessary resources.
First Children School is a New Jersey Department of Education–approved private special education school serving students from PreK through high school with multiple disabilities, including medically fragile, developmentally, intellectually, or physically disabled students, as well as those who are deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired.
This role is part of the instructional team and reports to the School Principal.
