Candidates must possess a master's or doctoral degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited college or university and hold an unencumbered professional nursing license. A minimum of two years of professional experience within the last five years in the area of instruction as a registered nurse is required, though teaching or precepting experience is preferred.

The course focuses on content relative to anxiety, self concept, thought disorders, mood alterations, addictive behaviors, organic brain dysfunction, abuse and violence issues.
