The coach is responsible for recruiting, instructing, and training swim team participants while managing practices and swim meets. They serve as the primary liaison between the Aquatic Director and parents to communicate swimmer progress.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old with experience in competitive swimming and hold certifications in CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid. YMCA Lifeguard or Aquatic Safety Assistant certification must be obtained within six months of employment.
In accordance with the Christian Principles of the YMCA, the coach will recruit, instruct, and train swim team participants. The Coach will evaluate and analyze the readiness of participants for the swim team events. All guidelines will be followed as established in the YMCA Aquatic Program Manual. The Coach is the liaison between the Aquatic Director and the Swim Team Parents. He/she will exemplify the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of the position or program.
*Starting at $11.50 per hour
Must stay current in CPRPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually. Knowledge of competitive swimming and the ability to evaluate skills and analyze program participant levels. Must effectively communicate progress of swimmers to the Aquatic Director and parents. Is responsible for recruitment of participants and volunteers for the program. Must be able to communicate with and be responsible for the children between ages of five years and 19 years. Will receive YMCA Swim Coach certification within one year of employment, or at the first available training. Any duties assigned for the welfare of the program and YMCA will be completed. Will analyze participant’s readiness for entry into meet events. Must direct swim meets and conduct swim practices. Must prepare and set up for meets and practices, as well as, break down and cleaning up after meets and practices. Meet results will be reported as needed to appropriate personnel, Teams, and YMCAs. Will run age appropriate practices. Communicate with parents about the progress of participants and their readiness for event participation. Coach will attend YMCA league meetings and give the Aquatic Director an update of all information pertaining to the Team and meets. Coach is responsible for setting up and conducting the Parent Meetings. Coach will complete tasks assigned by the Aquatic Director or Branch Executive Director. Must attend all team practices and swim meets. Is responsible for conducting safe, well-planned and challenging workouts. All duties will be performed with the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors and volunteers.
This position directly affects the overall Swim Team Program. When done properly, the Program will have a positive and safe atmosphere for each participant.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must be certified in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid. Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have experience with a competitive swim team. Must have extensive knowledge of competitive swimming strokes and setting goals for appropriate levels. Must be able to work with a variety of ages and be multi tasked. Must possess the skills needed to communicate effectively with Parents, Swimmers, and the Aquatic Director. Must receive YMCA Lifeguard Certification or YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant within six months of employment. Need to posses leadership qualities and public relations skills are required.
