Unit: Athletics & Recreation
Under the direction of the Head Coach – Cross-Country, the Technical Specialist Assistant Coach, Cross Country will provide support in the delivery of a high-performance cross country running program. This role contributes to the daily training environment and competition preparation, with a strong emphasis on student-athlete development, performance analysis, and alignment with RSEQ/U SPORTS and McGill standards of excellence. Primary Responsibilities Assist the Head Coach in planning and delivering a comprehensive, high-performance training program for the Cross-Country teams. Support in the design, implementation, and monitoring of individualized and team training plans, including endurance development, race preparation, recovery strategies, and seasonal performance objectives. Assist with athlete performance tracking and analysis, race results, and performance benchmarks. Support competition planning and execution, course reconnaissance, and team preparation. Assist in the implementation of race strategies and competition objectives in collaboration with the head coach. Support team operations on race days, including student-athlete management, communication, timing, and logistics. Assist with recruitment efforts by identifying and evaluating prospective student-athletes who align with the program’s athletic and academic standards. Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture reflective of McGill University values. Assist with administrative tasks as required. Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities Strong knowledge of cross-country running and distance training at the U SPORTS / RSEQ or equivalent high-performance level. Prior coaching experience is desirable. Athletics Canada "Club Coach" certification is an asset. Competed as a middle-distance and/or distance runner at the university level or an equivalent competitive level (e.g., high-level club athletics) is required Proven ability to support student-athlete development within a high-performance sport environment. Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills. Ability to work collaboratively, with a team-oriented mindset and strong work ethic. Bilingual in French and English. ***Safe Sport and CCES Anti-doping training and coursework are mandatory ***Selected candidates must successfully pass their criminal background check.
