About the role

The counselor will provide mental health, career, and crisis counseling to students while assisting them with academic advising and benefit applications. They are also responsible for fostering community relationships and implementing mental health awareness events on campus.

PT Mental Health Counselor MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions Actively assist students with applying for local, state, and federal benefits. Provide career, mental health and crisis counseling to students. Develop, foster, and maintain relationships with community agencies and organizations to connect students with services. Work with specific at-risk populations to create pathways for success. Plan and implement mental health awareness, social services and educational events for students. Deliver classroom presentations and facilitate workshops for students. Provide academic advising and registration assistance, as needed. Additional Job Functions Work cooperatively with counterparts on the other campuses to achieve the College’s annual goals and objectives. Represent SJC with outside educational institutions, internal departments, and professional organizations. Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Facilitate timely, professional communication and problem resolution strategies. Maintain processes and systems that improve the quality of customer support services. Demonstrate working functional knowledge and use of Banner. Coordinate, plan, and implement targeted events and activities on campus. Conduct individual and group counseling. Provide career testing, exploration, and counseling services. Maintain counseling records as required by federal and state professional counseling regulations. Must possess outstanding customer service skills and have the ability to work with multiple projects and within deadlines. Must be knowledgeable about and be responsive to FERPA law and regulations. Must be available for occasional nights and weekends activities. Education and Experience: Required Education: Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or related discipline from a regionally accredited college/university. Degree must have prepared applicant to perform mental health and crisis counseling. Required Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of work experience providing counseling. Experience with creating and fostering student or client success. Experience in individual, short-term counseling, crisis intervention, minority concerns, learning styles/study skills. Preferred Experience: Licensed Professional Counselor (L.P.C.), National Certified Counselor (N.C.C.), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (L.M.F.T.) and / or Licensed Master Social Worker (L.M.S.W.) preferred Experience with community college counseling services. Knowledge and experience with administering and evaluating college-level assessments, including computerized tests. Experience with creating and fostering student success, retention and completion Experience with Banner Student Information System. Knowledge and experience with administering and evaluating career and / or mental health assessments. Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply. Licenses/Certifications: Preferred Licenses/Certifications: Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (L.P.C.- A), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (L.M.F.T.-A) and / or Licensed Master Social Worker (L.M.S.W.) seeking independent clinical licensure. Licensed Professional Counselor (L.P.C.), National Certified Counselor (N.C.C.), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (L.M.F.T.) and / or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.) preferred. Any license(s) and Certification(s) must meet the State of Texas guidelines and regulations for counseling practices, regardless of exempt status of educational entity. Requirements

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field and have at least one year of counseling experience. Professional licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Texas is preferred.
