  • Description: The University of Louisville is seeking to hire an Academic Support Specialist II. The Academic Support Specialist supports undergraduate student persistence, academic achievement, and retention through instruction, coaching, outreach, and intervention services. This position assists with the delivery of the Cardinal Academic Success Seminar (GEN 102), providing classroom instruction, academic coaching, attendance monitoring, and student progress support. The role also coordinates outreach and intervention efforts for students participating in other academic support initiatives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assists with the instruction of the academic recovery course, Cardinal Academic Success Seminar (GEN 102). Teaches an estimated 4 sections of GEN 102 per academic year. Conducts class sessions, tracks student attendance, provides academic coaching for students, and monitors student progress. May conduct individual conferences and/or communicate with students outside of scheduled class times to enhance their academic success. Provides support for REACH & Rise first-time college students in compliance with state college readiness legislation (13 KAR 2.020). Coordinates student outreach, meets with students for academic coaching, and follows up as needed. Connect students to campus resources and makes referrals as appropriate. Assists with proactive outreach efforts with at-risk undergraduate students. Utilizes CardSmart, TracCloud, and other university communication platforms to reinforce the use of academic support services, programs, and staff who focus on student success. Provides referrals to key campus partners and offices to foster student retention efforts. Provides academic coaching interventions for students enrolled in GEN 103/104. Works with GEN 103/104 instructors to identify students in need of intervention. Coordinates student outreach, meets with students individually, and follows-up as needed. Collaborates with LRC staff to coordinate tutoring for at-risk students. Assists with developing schedules, attendance interventions, and data tracking.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, or similar programs; or at least 18 hours of graduate work. Knowledge of/experience using software used in college or high school settings. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Experience working with college students in advising, coaching, teaching, student success, retention, or related areas. ​COMPETENCIES MS Office Suite Classroom instructional experience Analysis and data reporting skills Critical thinking Teamwork Interpersonal skills Knowledge of postsecondary education and student development Targeted Salary $48,225 Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
