Qualifications
Must hold a valid license (or provisional license) in special education Knowledge of best practices and experience teaching students with intellectual disabilities Knowledge of the academic, social, and emotional needs of students with intellectual disabilities
Experience
Teaching students with intellectual disabilities Working with a variety of ability /grade levels (classes are multi-graded)
Responsibilities: Include:
Plan, organize and implement appropriate instruction in the areas of motor skills, language, self-help skills, and personal independence Adapt instruction, assignments and curriculum depending on the needs of the students Collect data on student critical life skill goals Provide accommodations and modifications for students as needed Working collaboratively with school staff, student services staff, and families Plan and organize activities to be carried out by an assistant if assigned
