Position: Child Watch Attendant
Wage
$17.13 to $17.13 per hour, depending on qualifications
Hours: Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week
Location: Tom Taylor Family YMCA, Gig Harbor, WA
As a Child Watch Attendant, you will ensure a safe, caring, and fun learning environment for children ages 6 weeks to 7 years while parents are utilizing the YMCA facilities.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years of age or older.
- Six months or more of related experience (preferred).
- Comfort and confidence working with children.
- Demonstrated positive attitude and professional demeanor.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (preferred).
- Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).
- Committed to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
- Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Care for children ages 6 weeks to 7 years of age
- Monitor drop-off and pick-up of children

- Communicate with parents regarding their children's behavior and safety
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness and order in the child watch area

Job Description
Position Summary
The Child Watch Attendant ensures a safe, caring, and fun learning environment for children ages 6 weeks to 7 years while parents are utilizing the YMCA facilities. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Key Responsibilities
· Plan and organize age appropriate activities. Play actively with the children. Adapt activities to the needs of each.
· Monitor the health and socialization of children daily.
· Provide appropriate discipline of children, as necessary, according to YMCA policy and procedures.
· Assist with maintaining cleanliness and order in the child watch area.
· Monitor the drop-off and pick-up of children to guarantee their safety while in our care.
· Greet parents and help children feel welcome. Communicate regarding their child's behavior.
· Assist with daily operations of the child watch.
· Responsible for child supervision, fun and safety.
· Provide safety briefings to parents and participants.
· Encourage sportsmanship and teachable moments to implement our core values.
· Encourage member and parent involvement and identify potential volunteers.
· Provide parent communication.
· Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.
· Assist staff leadership team in reaching campaign goals through recruiting campaigners, making personal asks and supporting branch events.
· Staff will be responsible for frequent touchpoint cleaning and sanitizing in specific areas.
· Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
· Minimum of 15 years of age or older.
· Commitment to valuing and promoting diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
· Six months or more of related experience preferred.
· Positive attitude and previous experience with youth and diverse populations
· Knowledge and skills in program activities and related office equipment, and the ability to instruct participants in techniques.
· CPR, First Aid, AED certifications preferred.
· Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day. Complete other online and in-person training as required.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
· Regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
· Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
· Must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move a higher amount.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
· Occasionally may need to plan and participate in programming outdoors.
