- PROGRAM: Elementary and Secondary Program Organization Overview Vaughn Next Century Learning Center (“Vaughn”), located in Pacoima, is a large urban public school within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Since the early 1970s, low student achievement had been a pattern. In 1993, tired of being helpless and hopeless, Vaughn became the first conversion charter school in the nation and was authorized by LAUSD. The charter was renewed most recently in 2018. Vaughn has over 25 years of experience as a successful independent charter school serving the district’s low-income students. This previously failing elementary public school is now a full-service, community-based, K-12th charter school that assures all students are college/career ready, digitally literate, and globally competent. - The Resource Specialist Teacher (RST) provides specialized instructional support to students receiving special education services within an inclusive school environment. Working collaboratively with general education teachers, support staff, service providers, and families, the RST helps ensure students receive the academic, behavioral, social, and vocational support outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The RST is responsible for developing and implementing IEPs, monitoring student progress, and facilitating IEP meetings while ensuring compliance with applicable special education laws and procedures. This role includes providing consultation and support to school staff on effective instructional practices, assessment, and intervention strategies that promote student access to the general education curriculum. The Resource Specialist Teacher actively participates in school-wide intervention processes, collaborates within professional learning communities, and supports inclusive practices through co-teaching, co-planning, and consultation. The RST also supervises paraprofessionals supporting students and maintains accurate special education documentation and records. Through collaboration with colleagues, students, and families, the RST helps advance the mission and values of Vaughn Next Century Learning Center and supports a school culture focused on high expectations and student success. Primary Responsibilities Working collaboratively in a professional learning community with other teachers, support staff, and service providers, in addressing the needs of students, developing effective teaching and learning practices, and developing and implementing best practices. Supporting students with academic, behavioral, social, and vocational needs as determined by students’ IEPs Facilitating appropriate placement of students in special education programs. Developing and implementing IEPs Facilitating IEP meetings Consulting, collaborating and advising school personnel in the areas of special education policies, procedures, materials, resources, assessment, curriculum, and instructional strategies Providing staff development on a variety of special education topics Maintaining accurate special education records and progress monitoring data Participating in the SSPT/Intervention process Managing paraprofessionals to support inclusive practices Has a working knowledge of basic computer applications, interactive boards, and technology available in the classroom Is willing to work beyond the parameters of a regular school day to assure the success of the program Desires to collaborate closely with students, colleagues, and community in modeling and teaching the values of Vaughn Next Century Learning Center

Strong organizational skills; a self-starter who can prioritize and multi-task Ability and willingness to work with students with disabilities (mild-moderate, moderate-severe) in an inclusive environment implementing co-teaching, co-planning, co-assessment, and consultation.
