Substitute Youth Development Professional (YDP)

Position Type: Part-Time (25-29 hours per week), some flexibility available

Schedule

  • Preferred availability includes
  • Monday,
  • Tuesday, and
  • Thursday from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., and
  • Wednesday and
  • Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; schedule may vary slightly based on Club needs.

Compensation

$22 - $25/hour

For nearly 70 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue (BGCB) has been committed to providing safe spaces for Bellevue's youth when they are not in school. Targeting the neighborhoods that need us most, the Club ensures all youth have equal access to life-enhancing programming focused on academics, health, and leadership. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Be a Leader in Youth Development

A Substitute Youth Development Professional (YDP) plays a critical role in supporting the delivery of safe, interactive programs and activities for our Club members. This role requires flexibility and adaptability, as Substitute YDPs must be available to work across multiple Bellevue locations based on staffing needs. Substitute YDPs assist in the daily delivery of a wide variety of developmentally appropriate youth programs and activities such as Education & Career Development, Sports & Recreation, Character & Leadership Development, Homework Support, and Specialized Initiatives.

This role is ideal for individuals who are self-motivated and positive, and can balance an energetic, fun, youth-focused atmosphere with professionalism and maturity. Substitute YDPs serve as role models for all Club Members and are expected to participate in all activities and motivate and inspire our youth to engage.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of Club programs and ensure quality youth engagement.
  • Monitor and actively participate in youth activities to create a safe and positive learning environment for all Club members.
  • Build meaningful, positive relationships with youth, families, and staff.
  • Communicate professionally with Club members, parents, and team members.
  • Model positive behaviors and reinforce the Club's values for children and staff.
  • Cover staffing needs at various sites to maintain required staff-to-youth ratios.

  • Additional Requirements for Substitute YDPs
  • Must be willing and able to work across multiple Bellevue locations to support staffing needs.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation (a working vehicle is required) to move between site locations on short notice.

Preferred Availability • Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday

  • 1:00-6:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday &
  • Friday: 11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with youth, parents/guardians, and community partners.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must pass a National Background Check.
  • Preferred Experience
  • Six months to a year of previous experience working in a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth development setting
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Mandarin is a plus
