Job description

Job summary

  • The High Quality Substitute is responsible for the supervision, safety and well-being of children ranging from ages 0-17 and some young adults with Special Needs, while maintaining a safe, clean and presentable environment for clients and their children in accordance with the agency and respective partner’s mission, policies and procedures, while ensuring that services provided are in alignment with the Social Determinants of Health through a trauma informed care lens as defined by the agency. The High Quality Substitute works in collaboration with partner staff to provide high quality engagement and supervision of the children whose parents attend partnering program classes; to include meal service, age appropriate activities, documentation, record-keeping and other tasks and duties necessary in order to safeguard the flow of the program schedule. The High Quality Substitute will be required to assist in various settings and/or locations as assigned, and moves from classroom to classroom or location to location as needed and directed.

  • Essential Functions

    • Program
    • Support: 1. Ensures that clients have access, as needed, to all five pillars of the social determinants of health with a trauma informed lens through Agency services and/or community partners. 2. Responsible for working in collaboration with program staff to ensure children’s safety, at all times, in accordance with agency and partner policies, as applicable.

    1. Responsible for coordinating age appropriate children’s activities and/or curriculum. Provide direct support for children with identified or suspected special needs; and provide assistance to ensure children's’ individual special needs are being met to include, but not limited to, feeding, toileting, mobility, behavior support and any other personal needs the child requires by accessing supervisor/coaching support for meeting needs appropriately. Ensure that children with special needs are included in the activities to the maximum extent possible.

    1. Responsible for providing a variety of support and service to the site and/or center to include, but not limited to, food preparation, meal distribution, after meal clean up, sanitizing toys and table tops, general center clean up, greeting of visitors and parents, clerical assistance, answering phones, light computer data entry, etc.

    1. Support client activities as assigned, such as scheduling & documenting appointments, registering clients for educational & preventive services workshops/activities and data entry while adhering to agency and contractual requirements pertaining to service recipient contact, recruitment, assessments, educational service plans, pre and post testing requirements, evaluation of client progress, service documentation and timely completion of the educational service plan and follow all case closure requirements. 2. Follow all directives given by supervisors in accordance with agency and partner guidelines; and follow all guidelines, and policies and procedures as set forth by Head Start, licensing, and the agency, as applicable.

    Agency Responsibilities

    1. Attend agency, program and partner staff meetings and/or trainings as required.

    1. Maintain good relationships with stakeholders, current and potential program clients, children and their families, community and co-workers, focusing on providing excellent and culturally sensitive customer service and always presenting a positive image of the agency. 2. Maintain a working environment which encourages mutual respect, promotes respectful and congenial relationships between employees and is free from all forms of harassment.

    1. Supports and ensures the infusion of the agency’s mission, core values, trauma-informed care approaches, and relevant brain science successful practices into day-to-day tasks, policies, procedures, and practices.

    1. Perform other duties as assigned, including presentations to community groups and organizations, in accordance with the agency’s “team” philosophy.

    Qualifications

    To perform this job satisfactorily, an individual must be able to perform each essential performance requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the training, experience, knowledge, and skills required for this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions listed above. Education/Training/Experience: 1. High School Diploma or GED. 2. Successful completion of an agency approved instruction course, e.g. A.N.G.E.L.S. High Quality Substitute training. 3. Current Pediatric CPR & First Aid Certification 4. Ability to implement appropriate teaching strategies and techniques 5. Fluent in English and Spanish (read, write, and speak) desirable. 6. Basic Computer/Mobile Device Knowledge and Skills (desirable). 7. Staff will be required to submit proof of their vaccination status or may request to be exempt from vaccination due to a religious and/or medical accommodation. 8. Certificate or license, as applicable, by the appropriate State agency as a qualified practitioner. 9. State of Texas vehicle operator’s license and proof of liability insurance (desirable).
