SUMMARY
- Reporting to the Program Director and in consultation with the Clinical Director, performs a wide variety of duties relating to the educational needs of assigned patients during hospitalization. Provides instructional/educational services to elementary and secondary level students while attending the Hasbro Partial Hospital Program. Ensures a smooth educational transition back to the patient's home school upon discharge from the program. - RESPONSIBILITIES: Contacts the home school to discuss the patient’s current status and educational placement. Communicates with the previous educational setting, (providing an adequate release is available), and/or reviews all available written records. Continually assesses the educational needs of the patient while attending this program. Attends school meetings as required or requested by the primary therapist. Prepares the educational discharge summary upon the patient’s discharge from the Hasbro Partial Hospital Program to the home school.Prepares daily lesson plans consistent with assessments and/or Individual Educational Plans (IEP’s) and overall Hasbro Partial Hospital Program treatment plan. Reviews and updates lesson plans daily. Provides lesson plans in sufficient detail to allow a substitute to implement these plans.Is responsible for maintaining a classroom environment conducive to learning. Provides each child with academic assignments and required materials at the beginning of the school day. Clearly defines classroom rules and schedules through verbal or written instruction. Provides each child with individualized instructional help as indicated.Reports on child’s academic progress through written or verbal communication. Identifies those factors which impede academic progress. Is able to state the child’s progress in behavioral terms.Collaborates with primary therapist to ensure that child’s local school system has been informed regarding date of discharge and academic recommendations. Uses expertise of team members in planning and implementing educational and behavioral programs when appropriate.Demonstrates the ability to function as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team maintaining a positive working relationship with team members. Consults with other clinical staff regarding patients. Participates actively in Hasbro Partial Hospital Program staff meetings. Shares expertise and provides support to other educational staff members.Participates actively in Total Quality Management.Performs a variety of other related duties requested by the department or the hospital, and complies with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.Observes all hospital and departmental policies, rules and regulations.Is dependable, punctual, and professional. Reports to work on time prepared for daily work assignments. Gives adequate notice for all scheduled leave time. Gives adequate notice to supervisory personnel when calling in sick or late, according to hospital and departmental policy and procedures. Conducts themselves in dress and behavior in a professional manner. MINIMUM
Qualifications
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Bachelor’s degree in education is required; Masters Degree is preferred. Must possess current certification from the Rhode Island Department of Education. Thorough knowledge of theory and techniques of educating elementary and secondary level children including those with special needs.
