Job description

  • Description Our Head Start team is seeking an experienced teacher at our New Kensington center to enrich childhood education.
  • Using your previous classroom experience, you will promote physical and intellectual competence in children.
  • You will accomplish this by: Planning and implementing objectives and activities in the classroom, Documenting consistent on-going observations and assessments on each child using the curriculum data base, Meeting and working with families to identify individualized goals and plans for child development, and Supervising, training, and mentoring teacher assistants and cook managers.
  • Westmoreland Community Action is a non-profit organization that works to connect individuals and families to opportunities and resources throughout the community to improve their quality of life and help to reduce poverty in the community.
  • This is accomplished through housing, counseling, support, education, intervention, collaborations, partnerships, information, referrals, and networking.
  • Head Start and Pre-K Counts are free programs that serve children, ages 3-5, and their families in both learning centers and the home.
  • Head Start provides pre-Kindergarten learning experiences for young children to help prepare them for a smooth transition into kindergarten.
  • The overall goal is to promote school readiness.

Requirements

Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field required. Level I or Level 2 Certification in Early Childhood Education preferred. Experience working with pre-school age children, Background in managing challenging behavior, Familiarity with Head Start and Pre-K Counts program preferred. Must be able to provide or successfully obtain child abuse, state police, fingerprint-based criminal background, and sex offender registry clearances. Initial health examination and TB test required.
