Position Summary
The Varsity Football Assistant Coach serves as a key member of the football staff, responsible for developing student-athletes, teaching position-specific fundamentals, and supporting the vision and direction of the Head Coach. This role contributes to building a disciplined, unified, and Christ-centered football program that prepares student-athletes to compete with excellence and represent Covenant Christian Academy with integrity. Assistant coaches execute practice plans, develop athletes within their position group, and support game preparation and operations. This position requires strong teaching ability, reliability, teamwork, and alignment with the program’s culture, standards, and mission.

- Key role responsibilities
- Teach and reinforce position-specific fundamentals, techniques, and assignments.
- Develop athletes’ physical skills, football IQ, discipline, and confidence.
- Provide clear instruction, corrections, and encouragement.
- Monitor progress, effort, and accountability within the position group.
- Enforce safety and proper technique in all drills.
- Assist Head Coach in planning and running daily practices.
- Design drills, scout looks, and position instruction aligned with game plans.
- Support film study, opponent scouting, and in-game adjustments.
- Ensure athletes arrive prepared, organized, and focused.
- Execute assigned game-day duties (sideline organization, communication).
- Model Christ-centered character, discipline, respect, and sportsmanship.
- Uphold program standards for effort, accountability, and teamwork.
- Build positive relationships with athletes, staff, and families.
- Maintain professionalism and unity within the coaching staff.
- Comply with school, athletic department, and safety policies.
- Communicate promptly with the Head Coach about athlete needs, concerns, and progress.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the program.
Role-Specific emphasis (As assigned)
- Depending on assignment, assistant coaches may carry additional responsibilities such as:
- Offensive Coordinator (OC): Assist with offensive planning, play installation, and weekly preparation under the Head Coach’s direction.
- Offensive Line (OL): Develop blocking fundamentals, communication, and physical line play.
- Running Backs (RB): Teach ball security, vision, pass protection, and backfield responsibilities.
- Wide Receivers (WR): Develop route running, blocking, ball skills, and perimeter execution.
- Defensive Line (DL): Teach stance, alignment, hand placement, pursuit, and gap responsibility.
Qualifications
- Mature, growing personal faith in Jesus Christ aligned with CCA’s Statement of Faith.
- Commitment to Christian education and Christ-centered student development.
- Football playing or coaching experience required.
- Strong knowledge of football fundamentals and position-specific techniques.
- Ability to teach, motivate, and connect with high school student-athletes.
- Reliable, organized, and team-oriented.
- Willingness to accept coaching direction and support program leadership.
- Ability to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends during the season.
- Willingness to complete all TAPPS and school compliance requirements.
