Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: The College of Education at Saginaw Valley State University invites applications for a one-year temporary position as an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education to teach in Middle & Secondary Education, including Community, Planning and Assessment, Multilingual Learners Workshop, Disciplinary Literacy, and other methods courses. Responsibilities will include teaching at the undergraduate levels in hybrid, in-person, and online formats, advising students, engaging in service within and outside of the university, supervising fieldwork, and collaborating with other faculty to ensure consistency amongst sections of coursework.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned Master’s in Secondary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field; or ABD without a master’s degree Minimum three years of classroom teaching experience in grades 5-9 classrooms Knowledge of Michigan standards for middle and secondary teacher preparation Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

Background in English/Language Arts/Literacy Education Experience using Canvas as an online learning management system Capacity to provide service to the program, department, college, and university Experience with designing curriculum focused on middle and secondary teacher education Experience and ability to positively interact with a diverse campus community Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations Preference will be given to candidates who have certification and/or experience designing curriculum, teaching undergraduate coursework, or supervising fieldwork focused on middle and secondary education. Additional preferences include content expertise in a discipline for which SVSU prepares teacher candidates and the ability to integrate DEI into the curriculum.
