Job Description
- Summary: The William & Mary Counseling Center is the sole mental health unit on campus with the primary responsibility of providing a range of mental health services to students, and related support to the campus community. Our role is congruent with the mission of William & Mary, and the Division of Student Affairs, which is to prepare students to learn, lead and live with integrity and purpose. In so doing, the Counseling Center seeks to provide services that allow students to achieve their personal and educational goals. These services include the provision of mental health practices intended to reduce psychological distress, treat clinical conditions, and enhance well-being and personal growth. Our interdisciplinary team facilitates primary education and prevention activities, provides support to students experiencing normal developmental issues associated with the transition from adolescence to early adulthood, provides support for emerging, acute, and chronic clinical concerns and responds to individual student and campus-wide immediate crises. Based on clinical assessment of an individual student’s needs, we make evidence-based recommendations drawing from the resources available on campus, in the local area, and in the student’s home community when necessary. The Counseling Center actively demonstrates commitment to diversity in its broadest form and serves as an advocate for social justice in the university community and beyond. Through our multi-level training program, we dedicate ourselves to instilling these practices and values in future professionals. The W&M Counseling Center is seeking a Staff Clinician or Staff Psychologist (depending upon the candidate’s qualifications upon hire) to join our team. The staff member will work in conjunction with other members of the Division of Student Affairs and serve as part of a multidisciplinary team in providing outpatient mental health treatment to enrolled students. Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Providing short-term individual psychotherapy and group therapy
- Delivering crisis intervention services
- Training and/or supervising doctoral trainees
- Offering as-needed consultations
- Participating in mental health outreach activities provided by the department or community
- Works in conjunction with other members of the Division of Student Affairs, as well as academic faculty, to provide consultation and support regarding students’ mental health
Job Description
Required Qualifications: Staff Clinician requires: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Social work, or a related field. Staff Psychologist requires: Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D.) in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program and a completed 2,000-hour internship. Both positions require: Licensed (or licensed eligible) as a counselor, psychologist, or social worker, or in the field of professional identity, in the Commonwealth of Virginia. If not yet licensed, licensure must be obtained within a year of the employee’s start date. Prior training and/or experience delivering mental health treatment to college/graduate student-age populations. Demonstrated clinical skills in providing culturally sensitive assessments, treatments, crisis interventions, and provisions of on-call services. Demonstrated success in providing group therapy services. Experience working with a full range of human diversity. Experience providing culturally sensitive and inclusive psychoeducational/outreach presentations. Proven Student Affairs campus involvement and/or interdisciplinary collaborative work with different providers/offices/departments/agencies. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: Assessment and treatment of neurodiversity concerns - including Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Eating and body image issues, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Conditions of Employment
This is a restricted position, subject to the availability of funding. This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional overnight and weekend work as needed to meet the business needs of the operation. Job Duties: 60% - Direct Service: Providing clinical assessment, diagnostic formulation, treatment planning, individual and group therapy, on-call assessment, and crisis intervention. 15% - Case Management: Create and maintain clinical case management and documentation. 10%- Training and Supervision: Provide training and supervision of Advanced Doctoral Students and Psychology Interns. Participate in Training Committee and Supervisor’s meetings. Collaborate/participate in trainee interviews and evaluation processes.
Note
- Staff clinicians can’t provide individual supervision for Psychology interns or Practicum students. They can, however, serve as supervisors for group therapy for interns and practicum students, facilitate some of the didactic seminars, and participate in case conferences and training committee meetings. 5%-
