Job description

Overview Seeking a 6-8 English Language Arts Teacher who employs a variety of teaching methods to engage different learning styles and ability levels in the classroom, prepares motivating and stimulating lessons, demonstrates knowledge of the curriculum, and encourages an inclusive classroom that accepts the different perspectives, backgrounds, and abilities of the students, and elicits a greater understanding of the world around them.

Status of Position This is a full-time position with Académie Lafayette. This is an exempt position pursuant to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Reporting The English Teacher reports to their campus/building principal.

Responsibilities

Employs a variety of teaching methods to engage different learning styles and ability levels. Prepares motivating and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of the curriculum, child development, and students’ varying abilities. Encourages an inclusive classroom that accepts the different perspectives and backgrounds of students and nurtures them to be globally minded. Communicates effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators and responds promptly to parents’ concerns. Utilizes a variety of assessments and student data to inform lessons and instructional activities. Creates a learning environment that is positive and engaging, communicates clear expectations, routines and procedures for classwork, homework and assessments. Maintains a culture of literacy and inquiry through the use of current literature and other instructional resources that support critical thinking. Meets grade reporting deadlines and requirements and follows school-wide procedures for monitoring and providing feedback on student progress. Maintains substitute plans and engages substitutes in advance when needed and when possible. Continues to engage in professional development opportunities (including IB training) to update knowledge of content area(s). Engages in professional goal setting and review process with assigned administrator. Attends and actively participates in all divisional and departmental/team faculty meetings.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree. Hold or be eligible for a Missouri Teaching Certificate or equivalent in home country. Proven experience as a teacher; international candidates requiring a visa must have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience. Demonstrates strong classroom management skills. Experience teaching in an International Baccalaureate program, Middle Years and/or Diploma (MYP/DP) preferred. Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills necessary for working in a multicultural environment. The ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and to meet deadlines. The ability to integrate technology to augment, modify, and redefine learning tasks.
